Most days when I pick up Bella from daycare, her teachers tell me that they think Bella is ready for the potty. Since we got an unexpected day off from work, I thought I would give it a try.
We stopped at Target on the way home and excitedly bought panties and stickers. Bella really wanted the stickers and I kept saying, "You can have stickers when you pee in the potty." I'm sure it was amusing to many of the shoppers who were quickly grabbing things off the shelves in preparation for being snowed in (that's another story). Bella was also very excited about the packages of panties. I also bought juice boxes which Matt refers to as 'crack' since they are so addictive.
We arrived home and I opened the juice boxes. She drank 2 almost immediately while I grinned and watched the clock. Mommy went pee pee in the potty and Bella wanted to do the same. Off went the diaper and on went the panties. We sat many, many times. We sang, we read, we talked while waiting for pee pee in the potty. Tick, tock.... Repeat, repeat, repeat. Finally after about an hour and a definite potty dance, she got a drop in the potty! Quickly, a sticker was awarded. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
We're on our way!
Potty. Bella prefers this short, plastic, portable potty, but the "yellow" which translated, means another adult potty works well too.
It took while for me to figure this out, but when the space heater is on it helps to get things flowing. Drops in the potty were good, but puddles in the potty were great!
Look at this success!!! Wahoo! She's mastered the concept! We're now trying to generalize the skill. We'll see how it goes.
